What Makes Pickleball So Special?

Pickleball is played with only a few tools. These include a pickleball paddle, pickleballs, and any court that you can find at a location near you. You can purchase a paddle and balls online or at a local sporting goods store for only about $50 dollars. Pickleball is a bit of a combination of tennis and badminton, and is played on a smaller court. Whether you’re 10 years old or 90, pickleball is a game that is available to and challenges all. Yet at its core, it has a feel-good element, leading everyone who plays to fall in love with this game.

The Rules of Pickleball

Pickleball can be played either as singles (1 v 1) or doubles (2 v 2). Unlike tennis, regardless of singles or doubles, the court boundaries and rules remain the same. You’ll only need a few tools to start playing pickleball. The main items you’ll need are: a pickleball paddle, a pickleball, a proper court and net. Both the paddle and ball used in pickleball are unique compared to squash, tennis and all other racket sports. The court, similar to a tennis court, is divided down the middle by a net and either side is also divided into two halves. Reference the image below to get a good idea of the court dimensions and set up. If you would like to learn the rules or court layout inside and out, checkout our Rules of Pickleball article here!

Who Plays Pickleball?

When it comes to having a good time outside, burning calories, and making memories, pickleball takes the crown. Pickleball is growing at the pace it is because of the fact that anybody can play regardless of age, skill level, location, and all barriers of entry are broken down.

As gym class is still a crucial subject in the education system, kids have begun to play pickleball in school and at youth camps, where it's introduced as a fun and accessible sport. For adults and parents, their enjoyment for pickleball comes as a social activity providing a break from their daily routines and a way to stay active. But go ahead and take a guess at who dominates the pickleball craze (you know where we are going with this). One of the most enthusiastic groups of pickleball players is seniors. Pickleball’s lower physical demands compared to tennis and other racquet sports make it the perfect game for seniors. So no matter your age or where you live, go pick up a paddle and pickleball, then hit the court!
